Shaftesbury Park, Newport

Shaftesbury Park, on the western edge of the River Usk, originated in 1900 as part of the housing development on the Marshes Estate. In the early 20th century it was a busy venue for cricket, rugby, football, baseball and tennis, as well as for musical entertainments. By the later 1940s circuses and funfairs regularly visited the park. It now comprises open space and playing fields.
